Privacy Policy

SpellBack is designed to collect as little personal information as possible. We do not require an account, we do not sell personal information, and we do not intentionally build advertising profiles around you.

What we do not do

No user account creation, no social profile, no mailing list signup, and no intentional sale of user data.

What stays on your device

Your local progress, settings, streaks, and candy bars are stored on your device so the app can remember your practice history.

What may be processed briefly

Words, sentences, and spelling attempts may be sent through SpellBack's backend and OpenAI-powered services to generate speech and coaching responses.

SpellBack does not intentionally keep a user database of your practice content, and the goal is to avoid unnecessary logging. However, because the current product uses server-based AI features, it would be inaccurate to say that nothing is ever transmitted. Practice content may be processed transiently so the app can speak prompts aloud and explain misses.

Information SpellBack may process

The word being practiced and the sentence read aloud by the app.
Your typed spelling attempt for that word.
Technical request data needed to return audio or feedback, such as standard server request metadata.
Basic app preferences and learning progress saved locally on your device.

How SpellBack uses information

To read spelling prompts aloud.
To explain spelling mistakes and generate memory devices.
To save your local progress, streaks, and review queue on your device.
To restore Premium access when a valid App Store subscription exists.

What SpellBack does not do intentionally

Sell your personal information.
Share your practice history with advertisers for profiling.
Require an account before you can practice.
Store a long-term central profile of your spelling activity for ordinary app use.

Children and educational use

SpellBack is built as an education app, not a social network. If you are a parent or guardian and have a question about how the app works, contact email@andrewkatzenberger.com.

Your choices

If you want to remove local app data from your device, you can delete the app and its local storage.
If Premium is active, you can manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple Account subscription settings.

Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern your use of SpellBack. By downloading, accessing, or using the app, you agree to these terms.

Where Apple requires standard App Store subscription language, SpellBack follows the usual Apple subscription terms. The Apple Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement may also apply: Apple Standard EULA.

Use of the app

SpellBack is provided for personal, educational use.
You agree not to misuse the app, interfere with its operation, or attempt to access services in an unauthorized way.
AI-generated explanations and speech are educational tools and may occasionally be imperfect or incomplete.

Subscriptions

If SpellBack Premium is offered, payment will be charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
Your Apple Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings after purchase.
Any unused portion of a free trial, if one is ever offered, will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

Availability

SpellBack may change, improve, pause, or remove features at any time.
Some features may depend on third-party services, including Apple and OpenAI-powered services.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or perfect accuracy.

Limitation of liability

SpellBack is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the fullest extent permitted by law.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SpellBack is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the app.

Termination

We may suspend or limit access to the app if the app is misused, abused, or used in violation of these terms.
